3000 years ago Atemu was pharaoh of Egypt. He sacrificed himself to save his people and ended up in the Sennen Puzzle owned by Yuugi. He lost his memories and now that he got them back and played a final game against Yuugi he is supposed to leave to the underworld. Atemu doesn't take that fact as easily as his friends might think. He is really sad that he has to leave his friends behind and he also worries about Yuugi. He wants to see his aibou in good care before he leaves. Also, with the help of the Ishtar family he finds out one more thing about Yuugi which no one ever expected.

The oldest son of the Djed-ra-iu-ef-anch family. They are well known in Egypt for their horse breeding and quite rich. He meets Yuugi and his friends when one of his workers challenges Yuugi and stupidly offers one of the horses for the winner. From the first second the young man feels drawn to Yuugi and the spirit of the pharaoh.

Atemu Djed-ra-iu-ef-anch is very proud of his family history. They are direct descendants of Egypt's pharaohs. And because he knows a lot about the ancient times he also knows about the Ishtar family and their task.
