He noticed as Sasuke’s movements were a little slower than usual. And Kakashi saw him wandering through Konoha’s streets at times at night when everyone should be asleep. “You should sleep more,” Kakashi advised him. Sasuke didn’t react. As Kakashi came to Sasuke’s apartment a night later, he found the raven sitting on his bed. “They won’t let me sleep.” Kakashi hugged him. He stayed until the boy was asleep. Nearly every night after that one. And Sasuke slept more. --------------------- During sparring Kakashi noticed how thin Sasuke had gotten. He also noticed how Sasuke was lacking concentration while doing missions. And he realised that Sasuke wouldn’t accept any offers to go to Ichiraku’s. “You should eat more,” Kakashi advised him. The boy said nothing. As Sasuke turned down another invitation to Ichiraku’s, Kakashi went to his apartment with bags full of food. He cooked and ate together with the raven. Nearly every day after that one. And Sasuke ate more. --------------------- Kakashi met Sasuke at the grave of his parents a lot. He noticed him using Itachi’s old weapons. One night he caught the teen standing in front of his old house in the middle of the distroyed Uchiha district. “You shouldn’t live in the past,” Kakashi advised him. Sasuke didn’t flinch. When Kakashi caught Sasuke cleaning Itachi’s old Shuriken and Kunai on a free afternoon, he dragged him out of his apartment. He persuaded Sasuke to help him cleaning the garden of the Hatake mansion instead. For the following spring they spent nearly every free day in that garden. And Sasuke tried not to live in the past anymore. --------------------- Years later, Kakashi stood in front of Sasuke. The boy had gotten taler, more muscular. He was a good looking young man now, his katana always at hand. “You should give up on revenge,” Kakashi advised him. “Kakashi,” the voice of the Uchiha was dark, but soft. “You were my teacher, but you aren’t my father. Don’t advise me anymore.” And Sasuke vanished. Sasuke thought he was doing the exactly right thing when he plunged his katana into Itachi’s chest. Then why came Kakashi’s advising words to his mind and why did it hurt so much to see Itachi’s dead body lie next to his feet? He would never know.
